Volunteers needed for a study investigating nicotine and age effects on the Auditory Middle Latency Response (AMLR)

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
HEALTH: Good overall health required.
Must NOT have any of the following:
· alcohol or drug dependency
· neurological disease
· mental illness
· central nervous system disease
HEARING: Normal hearing preferred. Free hearing test offered to verify status.
WHAT: The program is a 3-step process. Complete the questionnaire. If approved, you will be notified of your free hearing appointment. Accepted participants will be asked to come in for the evoked potential study as described below.
EVOKED
POTENTIAL STUDY: Follow your normal smoking pattern. Come in to the Evoked Potential lab after smoking half your daily cigarette consumption. Sit in a recliner and listen to a click sound presented via earphones while sensors (electrodes) on your scalp record the AMLR. Then smoke a cigarette and have the AMLR recorded again. Provide a urine sample to verify nicotine content. Duration: approximately 90 minutes.
